McDowell Legacy Program: Interview with Joy Evans & Isabelle Hoisington
Full Agenda: [none]
Isabelle Hoisington was born in 1916 and says she grew up poor, but she didn't know it. After Isabelle married and had a family, they moved to Michigan for work during the war. She was one of the original "Rosie Riveters" working on an assembly line making war vehicles. Isabelle's daughter, Joy Evans, says although they lived in the projects they also did not realize that they were poor. Also, hear Joy recount the outbreak of diphtheria and how the neighborhood had to take care of her after she was born because her parents were carriers of the disease and were quarantined.
