| Supreme Court of Georgia visits Cobb |
|
Cobb judges and the local bar association rolled out the red carpet recently for the state Supreme Court. The Supreme Court of Georgia held oral arguments in Marietta to hear two appeals: one involving a lawsuit filed against a Gwinnett County psychiatrist who discontinued a man's anti-psychotic medication shortly before he killed his mother, and the second involving the murder of a popular liquor store owner in DeKalb County. Before the appeals were heard, local attorneys were sworn in.so they were able to practice in front of the Supreme Court.
Each year, the Court travels outside Atlanta to hear cases to help make the judicial process more accessible to the public. This session was held in the ceremonial courtroom of the new seven-story Cobb courthouse, which was funded through a voter-approved special local option sales tax. In April, the courthouse earned LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" and sets the criteria for defining "green" buildings. The new courthouse is the largest LEED Gold certified building in the Southeast.

| KSU gets the "Arts Education in American Communities Grant" |
|
The National Endowment for the Arts recently awarded Kennesaw State University's Department of Theatre, Performance Studies & Dance with the Arts Education in American Communities grant. This grant will support production of the upcoming play "Splittin' the Raft." Here is Harrison Long with more.
