Safety Village
The Safety Village recently acquired a 1947 locomotive that was donated by Georgia Northeastern Railroad. The train will be used to educate children on railroad track crossings. A school bus will be placed near the tracks to teach children how to safely exit buses in emergencies. The exhibit will be ready by the end of next month. Life University Rugby Camp

KSU Civil Rights Oral History Project and Hugh Grogan Collection
Kennesaw State University recently celebrated the completion of an oral history project conducted by students and the Cobb branch of the NAACP. The event also celebrated the donation of a collection of the papers of the late Hugh Grogan, Marietta's first black council member. Under the direction of history professor Tom Scott, KSU students conducted 46 oral history interviews with Cobb County residents. For more information about the archives, visit Kennesaw.edu/library.

KSU Athletic Director steps down
After 23 years as KSU's athletic director, Dr. Dave Waples announced that he is stepping down from the post. Waples led the University's move from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 1995. In 2005, he spearheaded the university's transition to Division I status. Today, all 16 KSU athletic teams complete in the Atlantic Sun conference. Scott Whitlock, KSU's senior associate athletic director and head softball coach, will serve as interim athletic director while a national search is conducted.

10th Annual Back To School Jam
The Austell Community Task Force recently held its 10th annual back to school jam at the South Cobb Rec. center. The jam session is the last event for children living in the Austell/Mableton area before returning to school. Vendors were on hand passing out free information on school products, supplies and resource materials. Children also received free backpacks for the upcoming school year.
